The IMPI (Mexican Institute of Industrial Property) is the authority that protects trademarks and patents in Mexico; INDAUTOR (National Institute of Copyright) is the organism who protects copyrights, such as artistic works, photographs, books, etc…. But they WILL NOT HELP YOU if someone sues you for making an incorrect registration.

Both authorities have made an effort to make people believe that their procedures are simple and that anyone can do it WITHOUT help, when they really are not, especially when you expose yourself to some controversy, requirement or legal claim! There is a great lack of knowledge about: Trademarks registration, patents, copyrights and their laws. That same ignorance can easily make you lose your brand.

Through the art work registration, the author can authorize the reproduction of his work, the interpretation or execution, the recording, the distribution, the translation into other languages or the adaptation of his work to other arts.
